The Summer Indigenous Graduation Coach will work in collaboration with the current Indigenous Graduation Coach to provide pre-transition supports, leading up to and over the summer, to First Nation and other Indigenous students transitioning from Grade 8 to Grade 9. The successful candidate will respond to local needs and adapt for virtual delivery of relevant programming during the pandemic by offering alternative methods for learning and engagement. The project activities will focus on supporting Indigenous students as they move into Grade 9 as well as the engagement and reengagement of Indigenous students to mitigate learning loss considering the challenges presented by the pandemic. To support transitions for Indigenous students, all elementary schools within the school board are able to participate in the Summer Graduation Coach program.

The successful candidate will build positive relationships with Indigenous students by identifying barriers and solutions to student learning, engagement and well-being. In addition, the candidate will collaborate with school staff, parents, Indigenous community partners and outside agencies to build networks and supports to foster success for students during and outside of the school day.


Degree or diploma in Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies/Services, First Nations Family Support/Community Worker, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, working with and supporting youth;
Knowledge of Indigenous traditional teachings, cultures, perspectives, values, and history, and a deep connections to the local Indigenous community;
Awareness of Indigenous community resources and ability to connect students and families to these resources;
Ability to be a mentor and an advisor to Indigenous students;
Strong organizational and communication skills, proficient computer skills and a willingness to be flexible;
Valid driver’s license and the willingness and ability to travel for school board related business is required.
