Key Responsibilities
Process payrolls in the payroll system software and performs payroll balance routines
Prepare account reconciliations, corrective payroll journal entries, preparation and remittance of various government forms (i.e. ROE, T4)
Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for all employee groups (hourly, salaried, contract).
Review and approve payroll runs to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies.
Monitor payroll transactions including new hires, terminations, salary changes, bonuses, and deductions.
Ensure proper calculation of statutory withholdings, benefits, overtime, and other earnings.
Leadership & Team Management
Mentor and support payroll specialists/coordinators.
Assign workload, set priorities, and ensure service-level expectations are met.
Provide training and development to enhance team capabilities.
Support continuous improvement.
Compliance & Audit
Ensure payroll practices comply with federal, provincial/state, and local regulations.
Maintain accurate payroll records and support internal/external audits.
Stay current on legislative changes affecting payroll.
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities to streamline payroll workflows and enhance system efficiency.
Collaborate with HRIS/IT to optimize payroll system functionality.
Develop and maintain payroll procedures and documentation.
Customer Service & Collaboration
Serve as the primary escalation point for complex payroll issues.
Partner with HR, Finance, and Benefits teams to resolve discrepancies.
Provide exceptional service to employees regarding payroll inquiries.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Certified Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) or equivalent.
Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
5+ years of payroll experience, including at least 1–2 years in a lead role.
Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Oracle Fusion).
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in Excel and HRIS/payroll systems.
The expected compensation range for this position is $70,620 - $97,103. This range includes base pay and target variable pay. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience. We also consider internal equity to ensure fair and consistent pay practices. This range reflects the expected full compensation range for the role; most offers will fall within the range and not at the maximum in order to allow for future growth.
