Detailed Overview
Under the general supervision of the Chief Paramedical of Respiratory Services, performs pulmonary function, methacholine challenge and cardiopulmonary stress procedures. Assists with the maintenance and quality control of equipment and completes documentation as required. Responsibilities Performs pulmonary function procedures including spirometry, lung volume determination, diffusion capacity, inhalation challenges, and arterial blood gas punctures. Performs cardiopulmonary exercise studies. Completes and files testing documents and records. Assists in the monitoring of pulmonary function and stress testing equipment, conducts calibration and quality control checks according to standards, and arranges maintenance and repair as required. Assists in providing related orientation and in service training for department. Assists in developing department quality assurance programs by co-ordinating the standards of the Diagnostic Accreditation Program with standards and procedures of the department; participates in implementing new procedures, updating current procedures, performing quality control, conducting audits and/or monitoring services. In conjunction with Chief Paramedical and the Clinical Resource Therapist assists in the evaluation and selection of new equipment. Provides clinical instruction to Cariboo College Respiratory Therapy students during Pulmonary Function Lab rotations, as required. Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications Education and Experience Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care credentialing exam. Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT). Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Level C. One year's recent related experience in an accredited level three pulmonary function lab. Skills and Abilities Ability to organize work. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to operate related equipment. Ability to deal with others effectively.
