Our private sector legal client, an international law firm, is looking for an Intellectual Property Legal Assistant to join their diverse team on a full time, permanent basis. This is a hybrid opportunity located in Ottawa, thus requiring the candidate to be currently located in Ottawa. The ideal candidate would have 3+ years of experience as a Legal Administrative Assistant, ideally within Intellectual Property with a focus on Patents.
About the role
The successful candidate will:
- Provide daily support to the professionals' practice
- Organize and expedite the flow of work; Initiate any follow-up actions as appropriate
- Keep abreast of Canadian Intellectual Property Office (patent and design office) procedures and requirements, exercise sound judgment to seek advice
- Accurately prepare legal documents and correspondence with minimal direction
- Transcribe and type legal documents and correspondence
- Liaise between the legal professionals and various internal and external individuals, groups and clients
- Prepare invoices, assist in collections and e-billing
- Balance and reconcile petty cash and other administrative charges
About you:
- Has a post-secondary certificate or diploma in Administration, Legal Administrative Assistant, or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience as a Legal Administrative Assistant, ideally within Intellectual Property with a focus on Patents
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
- Able to work in a team environment as well as working independently
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as organizational and administrative skills
- Able to exercise sound judgement with minimal supervision
- Thorough, conscientious and strong proofreading skills
