The Opportunity The mammography technologist, under the supervision of the Manager, Diagnostic Imaging, is responsible for the operation of radiological and accessory equipment for mammography, breast ultrasound and interventional procedures. The technologist must be able to perform quality screening and diagnostic mammography with minimal supervision and display independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative. Responsibilities include preparing requisitions, obtaining patient history, selecting techniques and positioning to obtain quality images, operating X-Ray equipment and adhering to ALARA radiation safety practices, performing sterile techniques as required, and performing clerical duties related to the care of the patient. Hours of Work Monday to Friday (75 hours biweekly) between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm Your Qualifications Graduate of an approved school of Radiological Technology. Current or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals (NSCMIRTP). Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support (BLS) program within the last 12 months or BLS Renewal. Mammography positioning skills experience preferred, screening or diagnostics. Experience in breast ultrasound and interventional procedures is an asset. Ability to make independent technical decisions and work as part of an interdisciplinary team. High degree of mental and visual acuity and manual dexterity. Willingness to obtain continuing education as part of CAR Mammography Accreditation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Competencies in other languages are an asset.
