As the Portfolio Architect you are accountable to deliver portfolio strategy as a product: create the architecture vision, maintain an architecture runaway and portfolio backlog, support it through business roadmap grooming, investment planning, systems design and program delivery. You will drive Business and Development teams to rally around a shared technical vision, drive convergence and optimize capital spend.
To close the gap between strategy to execution, you provide in-the-moment-review to ensure what’s implemented is aligned with the strategy.

Here’s how

Collaborate with business partners

As a trusted advisor and convergence advocate you support business roadmap grooming providing technical guidance and expertise within the scope of your portfolio
Ensure continuous alignment of business priorities with portfolio and system roadmaps

Collaborate with System Architects and delivery teams

Maintain reference architecture for portfolios clearly defining boundaries and interactions between business capability platforms and systems comprising it
Create and maintain portfolio architecture runaway and platform epics backlog
Maintain New Product Introduction Framework with clear and consistent KPIs. Work with peer portfolio architects to enhance applications and processes to improve time and cost to market
Lead Portfolio Technical Councils, help System and Program Solution Architects to create and prioritize their backlog, resolve any conflicts between systems roadmaps. Ensure that program solutions and system designs align with business and technical objectives
Manage tactical solutions / compromises that had to be made based on delivery constraints while maintaining progress towards the target state. Own technical debts register and ensure timely pay back
Provide in-the-moment-review to ensure what’s implemented is aligned with the strategy, maintain end-to-end traceability from strategic epics to systems stories
Continuously improve technical skills, deliver select strategic programs to foster “hands on” expertise 

Mature and scale the Architecture practice

Participate in Architecture Guilds and other architecture community activities to learn and share knowledge, develop and inspire team members
Contribute to TELUS “TechRadar”, provide insights and visibility to current and future technologies to enable architecture possibilities


What you bring

9+ years of experience working as System Architect or Program Solution Architect driving Software Architecture, Systems Design and Implementation using Agile practices

Hands on experience in software development (NodeJS / Java) 

Solid experience in API and microservices design & development. Hands on with Postman, GraphQL

Hands on expertise working with the following technologies: Postgres, Oracle DB, Firestore, Bigtable, Redis, BigQuery, Kafka, Google PubSub or similar

You have used CI/CD best practices with tools such as Git, GitHub Actions, GCP Cloud Build, Spinnaker, Jenkins

You have used cloud platforms (preferably Google Cloud) and have experience with cloud-native technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform 

Influencer and negotiator, known for your collaborative approach and ability to build and maintain strong partnerships with stakeholders including Directors and Vice presidents 


Experience working in Telecommunications industry
