Our client is a leading international business law and litigation firm who is looking for a Legal Assistant for their Banking & Finance Department in their Calgary office. This is a contract position. If you are looking to work at a large firm where you are considered to be a valued contributor and not just an employee, then this is the role for you!Job Summary This Legal Assistant role will fulfill a short-term contract position, ending approximately in January 2025. Depending on business needs at the time, there may be opportunity for extension. The successful candidate will independently manage the daily activities of her/his lawyers in their Banking & Finance practices. The candidate will have a strong work ethic, be collaborative, professional, adaptable, positive and interested in their work. Work Environment Standard hours of work are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Occasional pre-authorized overtime may be required to meet client needs. Hybrid remote work arrangements are available with requirements as per business needs for onsite office support. The successful candidate must live in or around Calgary, AB and be able to commute to the office as often as required. While this is a hybrid role, the majority of the work may be onsite. Primary Responsibilities Handling all administrative duties such as email and calendar management, coordinating meetings, making travel arrangements, etc. Preparing and maintaining a bring-forward system, as well as providing appropriate reminders. Under legal professional supervision, preparing legal documents and correspondence according to precedents and/or instructions (drafting letters, revising draft documents, and preparing document comparisons). Transcribing digital dictation. Entering time dockets. Liaising with Billing Coordinators for the monthly production of accounts. Ensuring all physical and electronic filing is organized and up to date on a regular basis. Delegating tasks to, and coordinating with, other administrative departments. Providing backup coverage in the absence of other assistants. Other duties, as assigned, such as reception coverage from time to time. Required Knowledge and Experience Completion of a post-secondary Legal Assistant course. A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Real Estate law (large firm experience preferred). Experience in Real Estate law with a focus on Banking law is preferred. A minimum 5 years’ experience as a legal assistant is required. In-depth understanding of business and legal terminology. Experience with Big Hand will be considered an asset.
