Our client, a major petrochemical company, is looking for an Information Specialist to join their team on a 1-year contract in Calgary. This position will provide research and information services and support the Library team to provide access to the Library’s diverse services and collections.
The Library provides quality information research and insights to the company.
This information comes from external sources such as peer-reviewed journals, patent literature and market data.
Responsibilities: Conduct research and provide information in response to requests from clients using a variety of online research resources.
This includes determining the research needs of clients and providing guidance on research processes.
Identify and monitor trends and insights to support initiatives.
Participate in key project teams to provide research support.
Provide Library orientation and consultation to the staff.
Evaluate and acquire new resources based on need, suitability, and cost, to ensure users have access to authoritative resources.
Negotiate information contracts with vendors, manage vendor relationships and product troubleshooting.
Manage internal information in Share Point.
Create and publish internal Library newsletters.
Other duties and projects as required.
Qualifications: Master of Library Science (MLS) / Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) or equivalent accredited program (Library Technician will also be considered) is required with a minimum of 1-3 years of related practical experience.
Knowledge of, or an interest in, Science, Chemistry or Engineering. Post-secondary education in the sciences is an asset.
Strong customer service and time management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Advanced technical skills including MS Word, Excel, Teams, Share Point, Library Systems, and research databases.
Enthusiasm for learning and conducting research in databases with deep technical content and sophisticated search capabilities.
Passion for and appreciation of information research.
Sound judgement, resourceful, strong troubleshooting skills, ability to embrace change.
Technical curiosity and inquisitive nature.
Excellent presentation and communication skills.
Ability to analyze issues, define problems, set objectives and recommend solutions.
