Purpose


The Manager, Strategic Planning is responsible for leading workstreams related to the future of the energy and water sectors, and Algonquin’s strategic plan. This includes problem definition, shaping and creating outputs, and extracting key insights for senior and executive leadership. Key components of this role are the ability to build and create relationships across the organization, effectively communicate at all levels, and lead cross-functional teams to solve multidisciplinary and ambiguous problems. Ongoing work will also include support of and development of the long-term strategy, design and implementation of strategic roadmaps, processes, and scorecards, and leading project and change management for the team. 
As manager, you’ll lead small teams to shape strategy and execution, with oversight from a Director or VP. This is an exciting time to join the recently formed Strategy & Sustainability team – depending on when you join, you will be supporting the team in drafting our long-term strategy, researching new technologies and business models, quantifying value implications, executing on the strategy, and/ or building and maintaining our integrated planning capabilities.
Location: Flexible, Oakville or broader Algonquin North America jurisdictions (remote); occasional travel required 


Accountabilities


Execution of long-term strategy, roadmap & integrated planning processes 

Support the development of the 2030 and 2050 strategic plan, providing input using critical thinking to determine issues that may have a impact to the energy and water industries, and the company’s performance 
Provide input through research and networking on technology and business model trends and implications into strategy development and analysis
Lead workstreams or activities to develop hypotheses, define problems, perform research and financial analysis to support the development, valuation and implementation of the strategic plan, including presentation materials for various stakeholders
Craft workplans and approaches to solve ambiguous problems
Support the development of and ongoing monitoring for the strategy execution roadmap; create the associated scorecards and metrics, leveraging research and best practices to develop a fit for purpose model for Algonquin
Support the build-out maintenance, and continuous improvement of internal strategy & sustainability team processes 

Project Management, Change Management & Communications

Support creation of the project & change management center of excellence for the strategy & sustainability team
Support alignment among workstreams and key milestones within the team, as well as providing interface with other projects and initiatives across the organization 
Develop and execute change management and stakeholder engagement plans
Communicate and present complex issues to a variety of stakeholders in a concise, clear manner, including input into executive and Board level materials
Maintain close working relationships with partners both internal and external to Algonquin; representing strategy across the business to key stakeholders
Collaborate across multiple functional areas to drive solutions to complex challenges 
Internal and external resource management and alignment 
Mentor and train junior team members


Education and Experience


Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or related technical discipline; Master’s or MBA are an asset
Five or more years of experience in the field of strategy consulting or similar
Demonstrated financial analysis capabilities 
Experience in the electricity or water sector, or other capital-intensive industry, preferred
Project management and change management experience preferred
Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, alongside excellent verbal and written presentation skills, particularly skills and experience communicating complex issues, recommendations, and analyses to senior management and the Board
Demonstrated ability to develop strong networks and relationships internally across multiple business lines and functions, and externally with partners
Ability to successfully navigate and lead teams through ambiguous or uncertain situations; self-starter and independent problem solver
