Reporting to the VP of Transport, the Sr. Manager-Transport contributes through his actions to the management of his team and offer a quality service while having the interests of the company at heart. Contribute to the optimization of the performance and organizational efficiency. The sector head must function as 4 roles: Leader, sector leader, communicator, and coach. Note that he is responsible for the results of his team. Transport Manager plans and ensures the proper operational efficiency, quality of work, proper use of equipment, working climate to always improve customer satisfaction and contribute to the profitability of the company.
Responsibilities:
- Direct the activities of the day-to-day transportation operations and major projects.
- Monitor the general operations of staff of the transportation departments to make sure that their operations are within the guidelines, safety measures, government orders, and administrative policies.
- Delegate tasks, monitor performance, and conduct regular follow-ups with business objectives.
- Involve in the negotiation and authorization of contracts and other forms of purchases and procurements that are related to the company's transportation needs
- Develop important indicators that measure and show the effectiveness of the company's transportation operations
- Oversee department's budget from proposal to expense control
- Maintain awareness of all financial transactions
- Ensuring that projects are inline allotted budgets
- Develop transportation policies across appropriate units within the firm
- Appoint competent transportation staff. This involves carrying out interviews, selection, training, and performance appraisal of every transportation personnel
- Conduct necessary investigation(s) to determine the cause of problems like accidents (if any arises) and to set up safety measures to avoid recurrence of such issues
- Develop and implement plans that will lead to improvement in company profit
- Implement management recommendations, like proposed fees and change in movement schedule
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years experience as a Sr. Manager or Director
- Computer literacy (MS Office etc.)
- Knowledge of transportation (LTL)
- Ability to perform various follow ups
- Relevant experience on a loading/unloading dock.
