We supply high quality aggregates and asphalt to communities across much of Ontario.  

The materials produced at our quarries, pits and asphalt plants are used to build Ontario’s infrastructure, which is the foundation of our economy – including roads, bridges, underground infrastructure, sidewalks, houses, schools and hospitals. 

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Divisional Executive Vice-President, the General Manager provides leadership, directs the strategic planning for growth of business units and is accountable for profit and loss for the Niagara/Essex Aggregate business unit.  They lead the businesses to attain and maintain a predominant position within the industry to increase profitability while achieving highest health and safety, environmental, quality and customer service performance.

This position can be based out of either the Niagara or Essex office locations.

Travel Requirements

Regular travel expected throughout the Niagara and Essex regions.

Reports to:  Executive Vice-President, Aggregates & Construction

Primary Responsibilities

P&L responsibility for Sales and Operations.

Provides guidance and expertise to assist and mentor various managers to plan and organize operations - maximize efficiency and increase profitability within unionized and non-unionized environments across multiple sites and regions.

Develops and fosters strategic alliances with existing and potential customers, government agents, neighbours and industry associates to manage and resolve issues, promote a positive corporate image and identify potential business opportunities.

Provides assistance on major projects such as licence expansions and acquisitions to impart expertise and ensure a smooth transition.

Evaluates, analyzes and interprets monthly and year to date financial statements to develop strategic plans for the division.

Negotiates with suppliers and customers, including cost/price increases as appropriate.

Identifies and supports area specific CAPEX files, administrates and tracks CAPEX granted.

Prepares budgets to ensure business units are operating at optimal efficiency.

Prepares capital budgets and financial performance reports.

Sources, investigates and promotes product development and potential business opportunities to expand market share, increase business growth and increase revenue.

Inspects job sites to ensure adherence to specifications, budgetary constraints and time lines.

Ensures overall divisional operations are in compliance with all Aggregate Resources Act, health and safety, labour and environmental regulatory requirements and enhances the safety culture of the business unit.

Attends industry trade association functions, conventions, and seminars to maintain current market knowledge, promote business opportunities and foster strategic alliance partner relations. 

Oversees workloads and provides staff supervision to ensure that work is done accurately, efficiently and complies with policies, procedures and regulations as well as best working practices. 

Provides guidance, motivation, and performance review including hiring and terminating employees, to maintain and enhance competency levels, identify future training requirements and achieve goals to increase performance.

Identify new business opportunities.

Works in harmony with other Aggregate General Managers.

Works closely with the Construction division and Mobile Equipment Fleet Management.


A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in the aggregate sector.

Proven leadership skills and ability to develop and lead a management team.

Experience managing teams in both unionized and non-unionized environments.

Experience/responsibility in budgeting.

Advanced ability to pay close attention to detail, ensures work is done correctly and thoroughly.  Keep accurate records.

Proven selling, communication, and negotiation skills with the ability to secure new/current business.

Working knowledge and experience with Oracle (asset).

This position is Monday to Friday. You should have a valid G driver’s license and a clean driving record.  The total compensation package includes a highly attractive salary commensurate with experience, full group benefits, a pension plan, and many other industry-leading Walker perks.
