Description
Purpose:Reporting to the Manager, Network Services, the Assistant Manager, Network Operations is responsible for operational support of the York University Data Network (YUDN) and related network infrastructure and services including: building access networks (wired and wireless), Internet transit, UIT's Data Centre and Communication Room infrastructure, campus fiber-optic backbone infrastructure, inter-campus and wide-area network infrastructure and related network services ( DNS, DHCP, CG-NAT, authentication, etc). YUDN is an essential service which supports the research, academic and business operations of the University. The Assistant Manager applies industry best-practice processes and tools to Fault Management, Configuration/Change Management, Performance Management, and Security Management of the YUDN. The Assistant Manager ensures that the network and related services and infrastructure have the reliability, performance and security required to meet the present and future needs of the University. The Assistant Manager is responsible for oversight of the operational lifecycle (commissioning, provisioning, operations, retirement) of all UIT-supported network infrastructure and services. The Assistant Manager provides counsel to the Manager on standards, processes, tools and staffing for the administration and operation of the data network and related services. The Assistant Manager will be leading and implementing initiatives to support network transformation and automation. Education:A University degree in computer science or electrical engineering combined with industry specific technical certification, , CCNA/DA, CCNP/DP, CCIE, etc. Experience: Skills:Experience in managing technical staff and projects including the prioritization and delegation of tasks.Strong administrative and organizational skills with the ability to work productively in a team environment.Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to work productively in highly collaborative virtual teams.Strong communications and presentation skills - must be able to communicate, present and interact professionally with diverse groups across the organization.Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability.Proven ability to exercise good judgment, initiative, and maintain confidentiality.Ability to work under and deliver to continual deadline constraints while balancing competing priorities.Strong ability, commitment, and initiative to learn and remain current with new and emerging technologies and trends.Advanced-level knowledge and expertise with a range of networking technologies design and operation including Ethernet, hubs/switches/routers. routing protocols (, RIP, OSPF, BGP), communication protocols (, TCP/IP, VoIP, wireless, RADIUS, EAP, etc.), and operating systems (, Linux/ UNIX, Microsoft Windows, VMware vSphere).Excellent trouble-shooting skills required to identify and resolve equipment and service issues.Solid experience in processes related to management and delivery of network services, requirements specifications and RFQ/P processes.Knowledge and experience with standard project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.Ability to demonstrate delivery of pragmatic solutions that balance project/ programme constraints against strategic direction and as required, successfully reach agree compromise with stakeholders.
