Lead Electrical Design Engineer, Hamilton

Our client, an engineering consulting firm for mechanical and electrical building services in Ontario, is currently seeking a Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join their team immediately on a permanent full-time basis.

You will be joining a team committed to design integrity and quality attention to detail, and a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency to their approach. The successful candidate will work with a Senior Electrical Engineer on technical design requirements for assigned projects, project management, coordination with other disciplines, client building, management of the electrical team, and contract administration requirements throughout construction. This is a hybrid position working out of their office in Hamilton, Ontario.

Role and Responsibilities:
Lead the design and delivery of large-scale electrical projects, typically exceeding $1 M in construction value.
Prepare, respond to, and secure Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
Provide daily technical direction and mentorship to a team of at least two subordinates, ensuring quality and efficiency.
Collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams of internal staff and external consultants.
Manage and maintain strong relationships with owners, clients, and contractors.
Conduct site reviews, oversee change notices, and address construction-related issues promptly.
Lead the technical design of electrical systems, including:
Electrical distribution, power, and service coordination.
Site photometric plans and lighting systems with associated controls.
Fire alarm, emergency, and life safety systems.
Standby and life-safety generator designs.
Auxiliary systems such as IT, A/V, and communications where applicable.
Select appropriate equipment and verify design calculations to meet client and code requirements.
Design electrical systems for a variety of building types, including educational facilities, as well as mid- and high-rise residential, commercial, and institutional (new builds and renovations).
Supervise and support junior electrical staff through coaching, technical guidance, performance reviews, and career development.

Qualifications:
Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng.), Certified Engineering Technologist (C. E. T.), or Limited Engineering License/Technologist (LEL/LET).
8+ years of experience in electrical engineering within the building services industry.
Strong technical expertise in electrical design, covering power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, life safety, generators, and auxiliary systems.
Experience with educational, commercial, residential, retail, health care, or long-term care projects.
In-depth knowledge of Canadian and Ontario codes and standards (OBC, OESC, NFPA, IES, etc.).
Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage teams, coordinate project deliverables, and review/approve electrical designs and documentation.
Excellent organizational, time management, and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
Collaborative and client-focused approach, with strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
Familiarity with mechanical, architectural, and structural drawings and their impact on electrical systems.
Demonstrated ability to resolve construction issues, liaise with contractors, and manage client expectations.
Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize Auto CAD to prepare electrical design documents
Working knowledge and experience using Revit is considered an asset
