Position Summary BCIT’s School of Construction & the Environment is currently seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Toolroom Attendant in their Steel Trades Department.  Performs duties related to the operation of the tool room which include issuing and receiving of tools, repairing tools and equipment as required, purchasing, receiving, and inventory control. This position is required to communicate effectively with staff/students and to support department initiatives to develop and maintain high levels of training. Duties & Responsibilities DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform purchasing duties as required by department. Call suppliers for approximate prices. Prepare and process orders using purchase and web requisitions, open purchase orders and use purchase cards following BCIT policy. Track and expedite orders in coordination with purchasing.Perform receiving duties as required by department. Receive incoming orders and check for accuracy before putting into inventory. Notify Receiving Department of any discrepancies. Maintain and file related documents.Maintain inventory of tools and equipment, perform repairs as required and report any damage or loss to Department Head.Maintain inventory of supplies and consumables to meet department needs.Maintain and issue student lockers as outlined in training plan.Maintain work area in a clean and safe condition.Direct enquiries appropriately within the department and BCIT.Issue tools from the toolroom to students and instructors and ensures their return. Assist students in identifying and choosing proper tools for a task.Secures tool room, shop and yard at the end of the day.Lift material or tools weight up to 50 LB at regular basis is required.Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of this position.Participates in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices, policies and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP). Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS : Definition: The qualifications section for this position was developed using the approved job evaluation plan, agreed to between the BCGEU and BCIT. The qualifications represent the minimum qualifications required in the future (i.e. to be reflected in job postings) and do not reflect the incumbent’s existing qualifications. Education: Grade 12 plus six months’ general business certificate program or equivalent training. License(s)/Certifications(s): WHIMIS training.Current forklift operator license an asset. Experience :Two years general experience, plus six months in a position of similar nature. Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise: Basic computer skills in MS Word, Excel, e-mail and internet in addition to good keyboard skills. Communication/Interpersonal Skills: Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Must have good written and oral communication skills. Other Skills/Abilities: Level 1 first aid would be an asset.Mechanical aptitude as well as a broad knowledge of tools and equipment used in the construction trades.Welding knowledge would be an asset.Ability to lift material or tools up to 50 LB on a regular basis is required.Shift work required as assigned.
