Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Human Resources, the incumbent is responsible for providing support with a range of services to a team of HR Consultants at UTSC; coordinating the provision of on campus staff development and training programming and the coordination and provision of employment advising and coaching services for UTSC staff.

The Senior HR Advisor & Staff Development Coordinator position has two key areas of focus. The main focus of the Senior HR Advisor's role is to provide support to recruitment including posting of positions, working with HR Consultant to prepare postings, develop pre-screening questions and screen submissions; schedule candidates; meet with candidates; administer testing processes; build community contacts in order to broaden candidate pools and; attend job fairs. The position also provides HR support in such areas as: job evaluation, collection of salary data, employee orientation, grievance support, training and development support and general administrative support to HR. This position will provide information in respect to employment practices, employment legislation and the interpretation and application of staff policies and collective agreements while referring more complex issues to HR Consultant/Assistant Director. The Staff Development Coordinator role will have responsibility for supporting the training and development activity to our UTSC staff on campus. Under general direction the Senior HR Advisor & Staff Development Coordinator will work closely with the Assistant Director/Executive Director on special projects and initiatives including data collection, employee communications, HR reporting and training initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

I. EDUCATION: University degree in a relevant field of study; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CHRP designation preferred.

II. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 years' related experience working in a Human Resources department with experience in recruitment processes, training and development, familiarity with job evaluation principles, understanding of collective agreements and ability to interpret and apply HR policy and collective agreement provisions. Knowledge of and experience using on-line tools; preferably experience with using social media recruitment tools. Experience screening resumes and familiarity with the principals of behavioral based interviewing. Demonstrated experience supporting training and development projects. Experience coordinating events and workshops including creating post evaluation surveys. Experience collecting and analyzing data to inform programming. Familiarity with academic environments preferred.

III. SKILLS: Advanced computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Visio; demonstrated experience working with databases and/or HRIS; knowledge of legislation relevant to employment practices.

IV. OTHER: Demonstrated client service orientation; excellent interpersonal skills with ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a broad range of clients particularly concerning difficult or sensitive situations; maintains confidentiality as required of all HR professionals; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; strong analytical and problem solving skills; detail oriented; results oriented; adaptable and creative; ability to work as an effective team member and efficiently meet required deadlines. Able to travel to job fairs/outreach events and the St. George campus to attend meetings and training.
